SUMMARY:Come Hear the Carillon Bells at BYU
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 13\, at 2 p.m.\, James Welch will play an informal concert on the carillon bells on BYU campus in Provo.  The program will include arrangements of familiar hymns\, folk tunes\, and patriotic songs.  The program will last about 45 minutes.  The concert will not be live-streamed. \nYou are welcome to sit on the lawn or benches in the vicinity of the tower or stroll the campus while you listen. \nThere is free visitor parking in the lot immediately in front of the north entrance of the BYU Museum of Art on North Campus Drive.  https://moa.byu.edu/parking-and-directions/ \nThe BYU Centennial Carillon was dedicated in 1975 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the school’s founding.  The tower is 97 feet tall\, with 110 steps up a spiral staircase (no elevator!) to the carillon and playing cabin. The carillon\, built by the Petit & Fritsen foundry in The Netherlands\, is made up of 52 bells\, ranging in weight from 25 lbs to 4730 lbs. The carillon playing mechanism has a keyboard for the hands (played with fists) and a pedal board (similar to an organ pedal board).
