DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Utah Valley and Salt Lake Pipe Organ Encounter 2016! Pipe Organ Encounters are the most successful outreach program sponsored by the AGO. \nThe Utah POE will offer teenagers a rewarding opportunity to learn more about the pipe organ and its construction\, receive instruction from experienced faculty\, participate in visits to hear and play outstanding instruments on Temple Square and prominent organs in local churches\, and the chance to meet and interact with peers who share a mutual interest in the “King of Instruments.” \n  \nPOE Events Open to the General Public\nWe are pleased to announce that there are thirteen students registered for the Pipe Organ Encounter (POE).These students have a wide range of backgrounds and experience. We are thrilled to have them join us for a week of organ!\n\nOur committee has been working hard to organize the POE\, and we have several events planned that are open to the general public listed below. However\, before attending an event\, be sure to check this website for changes or updates to the schedule or contact the Utah POE director\, Lori Serr\, at 801-489-8222 or email: lori.serr@icloud.com. \n\n\nTuesday\, July 26: Hymn Sing at St. Ambrose Catholic Church\, 2315 S Redondo Ave\, Salt Lake City\, 7:30 pm \n\n\nWednesday\, July 27: Master Class with Don Cook\, Madsen Recital Hall\, BYU\, 4:30-5:30 pm \n\n\nThursday\, July 28: Master Class with Clay Christiansen\, Joseph Smith Memorial Building\, 10:30-11:30 am \nFriday\, July 29: Recital by Tyler Boehmer (RCYO Winner)\, First United Methodist Church\, 203 South 200 East\, Salt Lake City\, 1:00-1:30 pm \nFriday\, July 29: POE Student Recital at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral\, 231 East 100 South\, Salt Lake City\, 7:30-8:30 pm \n  \n\n\nStudent Registration\nThe Utah Pipe Organ Encounter will take place July 25-30 in Salt Lake City. The POE is for teens\, ages 13-18. All registrations will take place exclusively online at the AGO national website: https://www.agohq.org/education/poe/. \n\nQuestions? It introduces participants to the world of the pipe organ.\nIs a national program sponsored by the American Guild of Organists. Students are admitted to POEs on a first-come\, first-served basis\, regardless of attendance at prior POEs\, and regardless of state or country of residence\, as long as they meet the following eligibility guidelines: Students should be aged 13-18\, be interested in the pipe organ\, and have piano or organ proficiency ranging from intermediate to advanced.\nProvides an opportunity for students to have individual and group instruction in the basic rudiments of pipe organ technique and service playing.\nProvides a general overview of organ literature\, history\, pipe organ construction and design\, improvisation and other related topics.\nProvides an opportunity for participation in ecumenical worship\, so as to experience the role of the sacred musician.\nMost of all\, provides a unique opportunity for participants to meet and interact with peers who have similar interests.\n\n  \n
