And every accompanist wants to do his or her part in making this happen. This is most likely when the director and accompanist understand one another’s job\, and have an excellent working relationship. This session will explore the dynamics of this relationship from both perspectives.\n\n10:00 am \n\nPreparing scores\, fingers\, and feet for choir accompaniment at the organ (Cook)\nFor the organist to accompany a choir successfully\, it’s all about preparation. What are some great ways to prepare the score? And if the score isn’t quite right for the organ\, how can I adapt it?\nChoral conducting and score preparation (Eggett)\nThis class will present ideas for choir directors of all abilities and choir types. Topics covered will include; (a) score preparation as an aid to skillful conducting and music making\, (b) clearly indicating entrances and cuts for singers and accompanists\, (c) helping the choir and accompanist with initial tempo and dynamic level gestures\, and (d) ideas for indicating tempo and dynamic changes throughout the music.\n\n11:00 am \n\nCombined class: Live Rehearsal/Demonstration (Cook\, Eggett)\nDr. Cook and Dr. Eggett will combine with the 180 voice “Utah Valley Children’s Choir” to demonstrate some of the techniques discussed in the individual classes. Participants will be free to ask questions and encouraged to analyze the conducting and accompanying throughout the rehearsal/performance. Suanne Bowcut\, co-conductor and administrator of the choir\, will also be demonstrating conducting ideas and techniques during this session.
